History of the C209

The C209 CLK-Class launched in 2002 as a complete redesign of Mercedes-Benz's compact luxury convertible segment.

Mercedes introduced the industry-first fully automatic metal hardtop roof system, setting new standards for convertible engineering. The innovative AIRSCARF neck-level heating system provided unparalleled comfort during open-air driving in cooler climates.

The 2005 facelift brought revised styling, updated interior technology, and enhanced engine efficiency across the lineup. The CLK 63 AMG variant debuted with the legendary 5.5L naturally aspirated V8 producing 507 horsepower.

Production continued until 2009 when the C209 was replaced by the larger C207 E-Class platform. By this time, over 720,000 units had been produced worldwide, cementing its success in the luxury convertible market.
